Straw Singing

Vocal Exercise: SOVT

This classic SOVT (Semi-Occluded Vocal Tract) exercise is a simple way to rebalance and realign your vocal production. Focus on even airflow to help maximize the benefits. This is a great tool to keep in your back pocket for warming up before a gig (it’s so quiet!) and also for any time your voice feels tired or sore, because it is very therapeutic. Best of all, the back pressure created by SOVTs can help to even out any rough vocal breaks between registers! Don’t back off if it feels a little wonky over your break; keep exhaling and allow your vocal folds to gently figure things out for themselves.
